THE "WOMEN AND WAR" PROJECT

Hydrama is a partner in the ongoing "Women & War". project. WWP examines the use of ancient Greek drama as a means of inciting global discourse on war and in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder through plays, workshops and international symposia.

World premieres of new versions of the ancient Greek plays written by leading female playwrights and directed by Peggy Shannon, were hosted at Hydrama Theatre. These were: "The Intuition of Iphigenia" by Velina Hasu Houston,"Electra in Bosnia" by Judith Thompson and "Ajax in Afghnistan"/"Our Ajax" by Timberlake Wertenbaker.

A photographic exhibition and two international conferences were also held.

WWP is sponsored by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), Ryerson University and the University of Athens.
